If you are fed up with your nightly Netflix boxsets grinding to a halt or your online movie marathons continue to be affected by buffering, you might want to check out a new upgrade from EE. The UK telecoms giant – which is now owned by BT – has just announced a major boost which should make streaming far less frustrating. EE says it is launching an update to its Wi-Fi service, which will bring a feature called Stream Mode to customers.
This does exactly what it says on the tin and makes sure that apps such as Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and TNT Sports on discovery+ get the best broadband bandwidth.
That should make sure that no matter who else is using the Wi-Fi or how congested it is, things won’t start stuttering. EE also says that this update helps improve uploads to platforms like Twitch and YouTube, making live streaming and content sharing faster and more reliable.
Steam Mode will be available via the EE app, with customers who have EE’s WiFi Enhancer service simply switching it on when they need it.
Speaking about the changes, Luciano Oliveira, Director of Product, Home & TV at EE, said: “With Stream Mode, we’re giving customers even more control over their broadband experience. Whether its binge-watching boxsets or watching live sport, Stream Mode puts streaming apps in the fast lane, so customers can enjoy uninterrupted entertainment, even when the whole household is online. It’s all part of our mission to create a smarter, more personalised, WiFi experience, and it’s only available on EE”.
EE has confirmed that Stream Mode will launch over the coming weeks for those with the WiFi Enhancer service.
That upgrade is available as standard with the Made for Gamers and Busiest Home broadband bundles, or as a £5 per month 30 day rolling add-on.
