Stark reminder issued for plane passengers wearing jeans | World | News

Travelling in the wrong clothes could just lead to health concerns, a top doctor has warned.

Dr. Hugh Pabarue, leading physician and vein specialist with Metro Vein Centres, has spoken on the impact some garments can have on our circulation when on board a flight.

Speaking to Huffington Post, he explained: “The clothing we wear when we fly can significantly impact our circulation. For example, tight clothing is not recommended.

“Wearing leggings and other restrictive garments, such as skinny jeans that are too tight, reduces blood’s ability to flow into and out of the legs.”

Dr Pabarue continued: “Sitting for extended periods of time, especially on planes, can lead to blood pooling in the legs, increasing the risk for deep vein thrombosis – a serious medical condition where a blood clot forms in a deep vein of the leg.

“Wearing clothes that are too tight can potentially lead to conditions like compartment syndrome or meralgia parenthetica, causing numbness, tingling and severe leg pain.”

If your plan was to wear such items of clothing on your next flight and are now stuck for options, senior stylist at PrettyLittleThing Sophie O’Neill has put together a list of do’s and don’ts for aeroplane fashion.

“While jeans look great, denim is an incredibly tight material, and our bodies naturally swell when we fly”.

She also spoke on the importance of correct footwear, saying how you may be asked to remove shoes like sandals when walking through security.

Sophie added: “Bare feet and airport floors are not a great mix. If you don’t want to say hello to holiday germs, maybe wear your trainers instead.”
