Wimbledon qualifying prize money as lower rank stars fight for incredible sums | Tennis | Sport

Players involved in Wimbledon qualifying are battling to land huge sums of money in addition to a place in the first round. The qualifying tournament is taking place in Roehampton this week ahead of the Grand Slam starting on Monday. Only 16 of the 128 players competing in the knockout format will earn a spot in the main draw, meaning the stakes are high.

There is plenty of British interest with the likes of Ryan Peniston, Paul Jubb and Oliver Tarvert still going strong. To secure a place in the main draw, players must win every one of their matches across three rounds. There is also a huge chunk of prize money up for grabs, even for those who fail to make it through.

Express Sport takes a look at how much the Wimbledon qualifiers can earn…

Wimbledon qualifying prize money

Every player involved is guaranteed to receive at least £15,500, the amount given to those who are knocked out in the first round. If they win their opening game, the figure increases to £26,000.

Players who record two victories will land £41,500 in prize money, while the 16 qualifiers who reach the Wimbledon main draw will be entitled to £66,000 even if they are dumped out straight away.

Men and women will be paid exactly the same amount of prize money, which has been the case at SW19 since 2007.

How to watch Wimbledon qualifying

The BBC is providing live coverage of Wimbledon qualifying from 11.00am on each day of the competition. Matches will air on BBC Red Button and the iPlayer service. There is also a live stream of the main court on the BBC Sport website and app.

Wimbledon main draw prize money

The prize money is ramped up when it comes to the main draw, with this year’s champions set to land the biggest payout in Grand Slam history. The total amount on offer comes to £53,500,000, a seven per cent increase from 2024.

Here is a breakdown of how it will be distributed, in addition to the number of ranking points available in each round…

Winner: £3,000,000 / 2,000 points
Runner-up: £1,520,000 / 1,300 points
Semi-finalist: £775,000 / 800 points
Quarter-finalist: £400,000 / 400 points
Fourth round: £240,000 / 200 points
Third round: £152,000 / 100 points
Second round: £99,000 / 50 points
First round: £66,000 / 10 points
