Marlborough College, which is the school attended by Kate, was also said to be a top competitor when choosing a school for George.
Particular attention was said to have been paid to Marlborough College, a school where Kate thrived during her own education.
The co-educational nature of the Princess’ former school would also have meant that all three siblings could have stayed in the same school.
According to GB News, the proximity of Eton and their Windsor-based home is said to have been the factor behind the couple’s decision.
William’s history of attending Eton is also said to have swayed their decision, with the school also attended by other family members including Prince Harry.
Known as one of Britain’s most expensive schools, the annual fees at Eton exceed £63,000. Each term at Eton costs a little over £21,000.
According to the Daily Mail, sources close to the school have noted “smugness” emerging from Eton regarding the upcoming annoucement. An insider said, “It was like, ‘I know something and the people at Eton know something, but I’m not going to tell you’. That was after William and Kate visited Eton.”
The Express contacted Kensington Palace for comment.
