Iran’s allies stand ready to give the regime their nuclear weapons following last night’s attack by the US, it has been claimed. Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev issued the chilling warning as he accused Donald Trump of dragging the US into a new war “with the prospect of ground operations.”
He said on Telegram: “A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their nuclear weapons. Israel is under attack, explosions are thundering, people are in a panic. The United States is drawn into a new conflict with the prospect of a ground operation.
“Trump, who came as a peacemaker president, started a new war for the United States.”
The threat comes following last night’s attack on three nuclear sites by the United States after Donald Trump authorised the use of so-called “bunker buster” bombs on Iran’s underground Fordo site.
30 Tomahawk missiles were also launched from submarines, hitting targets in Natanz and Esfahan.
Donald Trump has claimed that the attack was a “spectacular military success”, warning Tehran to quickly make peace or face “far greater” attacks.
US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth said that the attack “devastated” the Iranian nuclear programme,” which was designed to “degrade” and “destroy” Iran’s nuclear capabilities.”
Medvedev dismissed the claims, arguing that the country’s nuclear infrastructure was only slightly damaged.
He added: “The critical infrastructure of the nuclear cycle, apparently, was not damaged or was damaged only slightly.
“The enrichment of nuclear materials, and now we can directly say – and future production of nuclear weapons – will continue.”
It remains to be seen how Iran will respond to the attack, with the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warning last week that any US strike on his country would be met with ‘irreparable consequences’.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi branded the U.S. move “outrageous,” and warned it would bear “everlasting consequences.”
He told a Russian reporter: “We enjoy a strategic partnership and we always consult with each other and coordinate our positions,” as he outlined that Iran “reserves all options” to protect its people and act in self-defence — including closing the crucial Strait of Hormuz shipping route.
The route is a vital sea corridor for international trade, with any closure likely to have significant impacts on the costs of goods across the world, particularly oil.
Araghchi will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday to “coordinate positions.”
Medvedev claimed that countries around the world are opposed to the military intervention as he mocked the US President’s desire to earn a Nobel Peace Prize.
He added: “The absolute majority of countries in the world are against the actions of Israel and the United States.
“With such successes, Trump will not see the Nobel Peace Prize, even despite all the venality of this nomination. Good start, congratulations Mr. President!”
