Rooms will feel bigger and brighter if you add object to your home

If your home feels small and cramped even when it is tidy, do not worry, as rooms can often feel boxy in the summer if they are not decorated properly. It is not something we often think about, but natural light plays a major role in our every day lives as it can lift our mood and make our personal space feel more inviting.

Many people block the natural light coming into their home with curtains, which are practical in winter but can make a room feel dark and an unwelcoming, especially as the warmer weather sets in. However, the property experts at Aquarius Interiors have shared you can brighten your space and make it feel better by simply hanging up blinds instead.

They said: “Apart from changing the mood of your home, window blinds are a great way of making a space look bigger or smaller.

“For smaller rooms with a lower ceiling height, placing the blinds closer to the ceiling will draw your gaze up and add a sense of vertical height to your room.”

Blinds allow more light to enter your home, which can make a room feel airier and more open, while heavy curtains can make it feel closed in.

Hanging blinds reduces the clutter around windows, as curtains are often bulky. This also helps a room feel more streamlined and spacious.

It can also have a psychological effect, as vertical blinds can make the ceiling seem taller, while having horizontal slats on your blinds can make windows or walls seem wider.

How to choose blinds to make a room feel bigger

When choosing blinds, the colour is incredibly important. Light colours will make a room feel bigger, while dark colours will have the opposite effect.

The expert said: “Darker colours will make a space feel smaller, cosier and more enclosed, whereas lighter colours will create a more open and airy feel.”

Dark-coloured blinds that are black, navy or dark brown will absorb more light and darken a space, which will make a room feel cosy yet more enclosed.

However, light-coloured blinds such as white, cream or soft pastels reflect more natural light and blend more into a room, which helps open up the space.

If you use bold patterns or bright colours they will draw more attention to a window, which can a room feel busier and sometimes cluttered if you do not choose carefully.

Taking the time to hang up blinds can make a room feel larger, helping your home feel more comfortable and beautiful this summer.
