Avocados on toast are a simple way to make a healthy breakfast, but unfortunately, this dish can be a little bland and tasteless. Avocados are known for their smooth, fatty texture, but this can also make the fruit feel heavy or even oily.
I have always found avocados disappointing due to their plain taste, and thought this popular fruit was overhyped until I found an easy way to make them incredibly flavourful. It turns out you really need to season avocados to bring out their natural flavour, and lemon juice can make them taste much creamier.
Lemon juice may seem simple, the acidity helps cut through the fat in avocados to lighten up the dish and make it a much more refreshing breakfast.
It will wake up your taste buds due to its zesty flavour, which can help boost the natural sweetness and richness of avocados to make it taste creamy.
Not only does lemon juice brighten up avocados but adds a lot of vitamin C to the dish to make it a more nutritious breakfast.
How to make avocados on toast much tastier
Avocado on toast is a quick and easy breakfast, as I made it in under five minutes, about the same time it took to brew a cup of tea, which I prepared alongside this simple recipe
To begin, I simply popped my toast in the oven and cut an avocado in half. I then removed the seed and skin, then used a small bowl to mash up one of the slices.
I then squirted a little lemon juice into the small bowl, and quickly discovered adding the liquid made mashing up the avocado a lot easier.
Not only that, but I then sprinkled a little salt onto the mashed avocado, which can also help bring out subtle flavour which would otherwise go unnoticed, so you get a much tastier breakfast.
Just a pinch of salt also adds more crunch to smooth avocado, which also makes it much more interesting to eat.
Once my toast was ready, I simply spread the mashed up avocado on top, poured myself a cup of tea and set out to enjoy my breakfast.
I am happy to report that just a little lemon juice and salt really made all the difference and it tasted amazing. It was almost buttery and I cannot believe the taste came from an avocado.
You can add another topping if you like, such as a poached egg, or some bacon, but I thought it was delicious without all the extra fuss and I really enjoyed it.
This is a really tasty way to start the morning and I cannot believe I though avocados were boring before taking the time to season them properly.
