Princess Anne’s peculiar lunchtime habit she shares with King Charles | Royal | News

Princess Anne is known for her healthy approach when it comes to food and is notorious for her “unroyal breakfast”. The Princess Royal is reportedly keen on practical, healthy, and vitamin-rich foods that can help to keep her in peak condition.

But she shares one habit with her brother, the King, when it comes to her lunch. King Charles famously skips lunch, according to Clarence House, which published a list of 70 facts about the monarch on his 70th birthday in November 2018. Among the various facts about the then-Prince of Wales, number 20 was listed as: “The Prince does not eat lunch.”

And according to a royal chef, his sister, Princess Anne, does not either.

Chef Michael Mercer, who cooked for both the Princess Royal and the Duchess of Edinburgh, spoke to Hello! magazine about Anne’s lunchtime quirk.

He claimed that he prepared a “full banquet” for Anne, who only had tea – a cup of Earl Grey – and thanked the chef before leaving.

Mr Mercer claimed Anne’s security team did not let the lavish banquet go to waste.

Another chef, Darren McGrady, who used to work for the Royal Family, gave an insight into Anne’s food preferences and focused on her unique choice for breakfast, which reportedly includes overly ripe bananas and kippers.

Mr McGrady previously explained while speaking to TODAY: “Princess Anne almost always preferred the bananas almost black – overripe – because they digest easier.”

Like her late mother, Princess Royal eats kippers for breakfast. These are packed full of nutrients and contribute to health and longevity.

Her love of the salty fish was revealed by a complimentary letter she previously sent to Fortune Kippers, a 140-year-old company based in Whitby, Yorkshire.

The company’s website revealed the accolade the Princess Royal gave them: “Members of the Royal Family have also been known to enjoy our kippers, and HRH Princess Anne has written to Barry and Derek telling them how much she enjoys their kippers.”
