Brits urged to prepare themselves for ‘carnage’ queues at Spanish airport | Travel News | Travel

British holidaymakers heading for one of Spain’s most popular regions this summer have been urged to prepare themselves for chaotic scenes at a major airport. New videos on TikTok reveal crazy queues that have been described as “hell” by people in the comments.

The new videos show ridiculously long queues of tourists waiting to pass through passport control at Malaga Airport in southern Spain. One video, posted by user @TillinTravels, showed crowds of passengers slowly making their way through the airport. According to one commenter, this is not just an issue for tourists from the UK: “The automatic machines [at passport control] haven’t been working since last year so even for EU citizens there are queues”. “This looks like hell,” wrote another, who said they had been through the airport just two days earlier and saw no queues.

“I’m so scared I’m going in a couple of days,” wrote another.

“Was there [on] Saturday, it was awful,” a fourth wrote. “Literally several plane loads at once… at least I got my steps up”.

“I landed 5 days ago I’m still going round in circles trying to exit HELP ME,” one joked.

This was not the only video posted showing the chaotic scenes at Malaga. A second video, titled “Prepare yourself… Malaga Airport” posted by @amyelizabeth__griff, showed equally long queues, with tourists winding through lanes to get to the automatic passport gates.

One commenter wrote: “no words I HATE Malaga airport”. “Especially in summer,” another replied. A third penned: “Guys I go to Malaga 3 times a year and this section is always carnage”.

Last year, Malaga Airport handled a record-breaking 24.9 million passengers – a significant increase compared to previous years. The majority of passengers – over 20 million – were from outside of Spain.

The airport is the fourth busiest in Spain, after Madrid–Barajas, Barcelona–El Prat and Palma de Mallorca. It is the main international airport serving the Costa del Sol, located five miles southwest of Malaga.
