‘Most underrated film of all time’ that fans watch ‘16 times’

Horror enthusiasts are flocking to cinemas today for the premiere of the eagerly awaited zombie sequel, 28 Years Later.

Helmed by Danny Boyle and penned by Alex Garland, this chilling follow-up unfolds nearly thirty years after the original 2002 film, 28 Days Later. The first instalment introduced audiences to a then relatively unknown Cillian Murphy and the horrifying ‘rage’ virus.

The inaugural movie was lauded for its innovative portrayal of zombies, presenting viewers with a world where these creatures were alarmingly fast – a stark contrast to the slow-moving undead typically depicted.

Now, they return in full force, with the new film’s synopsis hinting: “It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway.

“When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”

Prior to their collaboration on 28 Years Later, Alex Garland and Danny Boyle joined forces on another project that seems to have slipped under the radar. Starring Cillian Murphy, the 2007 film Sunshine has been hailed by its admirers as “the best sci-fi film of all time”.

Set in 2057, the narrative follows a crew dispatched into space with the mission to reignite our dying sun and save humanity from extinction. Their journey takes an unexpected twist when they stumble upon a long-lost spaceship previously sent on the same mission.

The star-studded cast features the likes of Cillian Murphy, Rose Byrne, Michelle Yeoh, Chris Evans, and Benedict Wong. The film is currently available for streaming on Disney+, reports Irish Star.

“Sunshine is the most underrated movie of all time. No exaggeration. For me personally it is my favorite movie. I discovered this movie in 2020 and since I have seen it about 16 times,” penned one fan.

Another viewer shared: “Watched this for the first time and I already know I will watch it again, and make others watch it as well. Sunshine is a genuinely enjoyable, engaging, and interesting sci-fi movie.”

Meanwhile a third viewer added: “Tonight was my third or fourth time watching this film. Of course, it has all the standard garb in it with being lost in space, and finding the ship sent before you – which has been lost for years – but there’s just something different about this one.

“People fight to stay alive, and the again, they lay down their lives when the mission (restarting the sun) is in peril.”
