Brit tourists face ‘horrendous’ queues at Spanish airport | Travel News | Travel

Holidaymakers have been caught on camera enduring lengthy queues at Alicante airport as they seek to return home after soaking up the Spanish sun.

A TikTok video has shone the spotlight on the severe congestion, causing concern for those planning a getaway to Alicante and prompting questions about potential delays.

One user wrote: “Gonna be there in three days, should I be worried?”

The footage circulating online has caused concern among holiday-goers fearing that their travel plans could be disrupted.

Another individual shared: “Not looking forward to going back home.” A third commented: “Oh no… is it very busy?”

One traveller found themselves stuck in a stairwell with crowds of others keen to get home on a particularly busy day.

They wrote: “Got put on a stairwell down to tarmac in Alicante airport on Saturday in about 32C with about 200 people. It was chaos.”

Another person stuck alongside them added: “Felt your pain, we got stood in the tunnel thing to the plain [sic] for like 20 minutes.”

A comment dated June 16 read: “It was horrendous yesterday morning, 55 minutes to check in a bag.” This situation contrasts the previous week’s swift airport experiences shared by travellers.

Another holidaygoer was left frustrated as their gate was changed multiple times. They fumed: “My flight went from B26 to B32 to B27, then B26, then back to B32. Absolute scenes.”

Frequent users of Alicante Airport expressed shock at the queues depicted in a recent TikTok video. One commented: “Been flying from here for absolutely years, never seen it like this.”

However, reports suggest that congestion at Alicante Airport is subsiding, as those who travelled late last week and early this week have noted they did not suffer the same hold-ups.

One person wrote: “Strolled through airport Sunday just gone, a breeze. No issues.”

Another agreed: “Got through check in and security in 20 minutes last week.”

The airport chaos comes as protests against tourism persist across Spain. Locals were seen squirting waterguns at tourists in cities like Mallorca and Barcelona.

Ironically, the water-spraying stunts intended to annoy travellers provided unexpected relief due to the scorching heat, leaving tourists feeling cooled down rather than angered.

Tourist Wanda Dorozenski expressed to NPR her understanding perspective by saying: “That’s lovely, thank you sweetheart. I am not going to complain. These people are feeling something to them that is very personal, and is perhaps destroying some areas (of the city).”

Alicante Airport has been approached for comment.
