A parking row has erupted between two neighbours after one homeowner got fed up with his driveway repeatedly being used, blocking his personal space. Despite asking his neighbour numerous times to park elsewhere the man would often return from work to find the same vehicle occupying his driveway for months, causing him to park on the street instead.
Sharing his frustration on Reddit the homeowner said the issue has been going on for months. He wrote: “My neighbour has been parking in my driveway for months. I’ve asked him not to a bunch of times but he always goes ‘it’s just for a sec’ and shrugs it off.”
At his wits’ end with the situation the man came up with his own devious revenge.
He explained: “Came home last Friday and yep, there he was again only things was… I was heading out of town for the weekend so I pulled in behind him, locked up, grabbed my stuff and left.”
The strategic parking manoeuvre left the neighbour’s vehicle trapped for the entire weekend.
It wasn’t long until the neighbour realised his car was trapped and desperately tried to get in touch with the man, leaving numerous angry texts.
He added: “A couple hours later I had a bunch of missed calls and a text like, ‘Dude wtf?’ But I didn’t answer it.. Hope he had a relaxing weekend to think things through.”
Although it’s not illegal to park across someone’s driveway, drivers are committing a parking offence if their wheel is over the dropped kerb.
Ask the Police website, operated by the Police National Legal Database, initially advises homeowners to check with neighbours to identify the vehicle’s owner so it can be moved if access to your driveway is impeded.
The website said: “In most areas local councils have now taken on responsibility for enforcing parking provisions under what is known as Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE). Under CPE, it’s an offence to park a vehicle that blocks a dropped kerb driveway. You can check if your local council has taken on CPE via the link here.”
