The stunning ‘crowd-free’ city with an Arctic Cathedral where the sun doesn’t set | Travel News | Travel

While most tourists head to places like Spain, Greece, Italy and Portugal during the summer, a few other countries are often overlooked. One of them is Norway, which has the longest coastline in Europe stretching a whopping 36,000 miles. As a result, the Scandinavian country is home to many beautiful cities that don’t see huge crowds.

One of them is Tromsø. The small city sits far above the Arctic Circle and doesn’t attract the same level of tourism as other European destinations. But for people looking for something different, it has a lot to offer.

Experts at Nordic Experience say Tromsø is one of the best places to experience the Midnight Sun.

Between May 20 and July 22, the sun doesn’t set at all.

From July to August, it barely dips below the horizon, meaning people can make the most of the long days and stay out as late as they like.

One of the city’s most recognisable buildings is the Arctic Cathedral, known for its unique design and large stained-glass windows.

It’s become a landmark for visitors and is used for concerts and many local events.

Tromsø is also known for its nature. There are walking trails, boat tours, and a cable car to the top of Mount Storsteinen.

It’s possible to hike, fish or even kayak under the midnight sun.

Despite being in the far north, the city is easy to reach with an airport and regular flights from Oslo.

It’s also home to the world’s northernmost university, so it has a young population and a lot of restaurants and cafes.

While Tromsø is known as a Northern Lights destination in winter, summer is completely different.

Instead of dark skies and snow, there are bright nights, green hills and plenty of space.

The streets aren’t packed with tourists, and even during the busiest months, the city stays relatively calm and quiet.

And for people looking to escape the heat and try something new, Tromsø could be the perfect summer break.
