F1, one of the most eagerly awaited new blockbusters for 2025, is set to hit cinemas in just over a week.

The adrenaline-fuelled drama pairs Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski with Hollywood heavyweight Brad Pitt for an exhilarating interpretation of one of the globe’s most beloved sports.

Boasting a star-studded cast, from Oscar laureates to television legends and emerging talents, F1 is shaping up to be the first must-see cinema release this summer, reports the Mirror.

As the film nears its starting line, let’s delve into the key details you need to know before its premiere.

Who are the stars of F1?

Hollywood legend Brad Pitt takes the lead role as retired Formula One driver Sonny Hayes.

After a catastrophic crash in the 1990s, Sonny is compelled to retire and compete elsewhere, eventually leading a nomadic lifestyle when we encounter him in 2025.

However, he’s persuaded to emerge from his self-imposed seclusion when his close friend Ruben Cervantes (portrayed by Javier Bardem) selects him to mentor Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP) newcomer, Joshua ‘Noah’ Pearce (Damson Idris).

Alongside this trio, BAFTA-winning Irish actress Kerry Condon plays APXGP technical director Kate McKenna.

Several familiar faces from popular British TV series also have significant roles, including Outlander and The Crown’s Tobias Menzies as Peter Banning, a member of APXGP’s board of directors.

The supporting cast includes Killing Eve’s Kim Bodnia as Kaspar Molinski, Heartstopper’s Joseph Balderrama as Rico Fazio, comedy star Samson Kayo as Cashman and Ted Lasso’s Sarah Niles as Bernadette Pearce, Joshua’s mother.

Sex Education and Bridgerton star Simone Ashley also has a role that is yet to be disclosed.

Casualty’s Abdul Salis, Callie Cooke from Henpocalypse!, Skins’ Will Merrick and Layne Harper are also part of the cast, along with Mission: Impossible’s Shea Whigham as Chip Hart.

Cameos from real F1 drivers

An impressive line-up of real drivers will make cameos in the film, including racing legends Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.

The film features appearances from all 10 F1 teams and their drivers portraying themselves.

The full list includes: Sergio Pérez (Mexico, Red Bull), Charles Leclerc (Monaco, Ferrari), Carlos Sainz Jr. (Spain, Ferrari), George Russell (UK, Mercedes), Esteban Ocon (France, Alpine), Pierre Gasly (France, Alpine), Lando Norris (UK, McLaren), Oscar Piastri (Australia, McLaren), Valtteri Bottas (Finland, Alfa Romeo), Zhou Guanyu (China, Alfa Romeo), Fernando Alonso, (Spain, Aston Martin), Lance Stroll (Canada, Aston Martin), Kevin Magnussen (Denmark, Haas), Nico Hülkenberg (Germany, Haas), Daniel Ricciardo (Australia, AlphaTauri), Yuki Tsunoda (Japan, AlphaTauri), Nyck de Vries (Netherlands, AlphaTauri), Liam Lawson (New Zealand, (AlphaTauri), Alexander Albon (Thailand, Williams) and Logan Sargeant (USA, Williams).

When will F1 be released?

F1 is set to hit the screens in the United States on Friday, 27th June.

However, unlike many Hollywood releases, the film will be available slightly earlier for international viewers.

UK cinema-goers will have the opportunity to watch F1, including in IMAX, from Wednesday, 25th June.

The film, a joint venture between Warner Bros and Apple Original Films, is also anticipated to be released on Apple TV+ later this year, though a streaming premiere date has not yet been confirmed.

F1 is in UK cinemas from Wednesday, 25th June.
