For those of us who grew up in the 90s, you’ll know that it was an iconic time for fashion, music and TV – and not to mention food. There are certain snacks and drinks that instantly transport you back to those days just by looking at them.
Some of these have sadly disappeared from shop shelves, but back in the day, they were everywhere. The 90s saw a lot of foodie inspiration from across the pond, whilst other options remained quintessentially British. And of course, there were sweets – and lots of them. So let’s take a trip down memory lane and look back on some iconic foods you’ll only remember if you grew up in 90s Britain.

2. Calippo shots
When the sun came out back in the day, it meant only one thing – a box of Calippo Shots was an absolute must. These tiny frozen balls of ice were very sweet and got extremely sticky when they started to melt, but the mess was worth it every time. The only bad thing about these was how hard they were to get out of the strange bin-like contraption, especially when they began to clump together.
These were apparently only discontinued in 2020, but it feels a lot longer ago than that. Fans are so passionate that they set up a petition for the UK Government to bring them back, but it was sadly rejected.

3. Findus crispy pancakes
These were in everybody’s freezer back in the day, serving as the perfect quick and easy dinner for after school. The breaded outer filling and molten insides made them a bit of a nightmare to eat, but we loved them anyway.
You can actually still buy these from the likes of Sainsbury’s and Ocado if you want your fix of nostalgia, but be warned – they’ve likely undergone a taste overhaul to make them more suitable, so they might not taste as good as you remember.

4. Pot Rice
A cousin of the more popular Pot Noodle, Pot Rice was a dehydrated snack that you poured boiling water into, transforming it into a meal. It was discontinued back in 2003 so that the brand could focus more on its other products, but it had a resurgence back in 2018.
One fan on Reddit hailed them as an ‘absolute classic’ with the chicken curry flavour in particular being a firm favourite.
