6-ingredient burger rolls are ‘soft’ and ‘light’ — baked in 10 minutes

If you’re planning on using the BBQ this week, whilst the weather is nice, why not try to make your own burger rolls? They’re tasty, easy to make and contain no ultra-processed ingredients.

This recipe from Good Food makes nine to 12 rolls, depending on the size, and they bake in the oven in just 10 minutes. The recipe notes said: “Combine the ingredients for brioche with a burger bun to make a deliciously sweet, soft, light dough. It could also be shaped into hot dog rolls.”

Ingredients:

200ml whole milk

50g unsalted butter

500g plain flour

One tablespoon of caster sugar

7g sachet of fast-action dried yeast

One egg

Method:

Put the milk, butter and 100ml of water in a pan and gently heat until the butter has melted. Set aside to cool until just warm.

Tip the flour, sugar, yeast and one teaspoon of salt into a large bowl and gradually add in the milk mixture, then the egg, until you have a smooth dough.

Tip the dough onto a floured surface or into a stand mixer with the dough hook and knead until elastic and shiny.

Divide into 12 balls, around 80g each and transfer them to baking trays lined with parchment, leaving plenty of space between them.

Let the balls prove for 30 to 45 minutes and then heat the oven to 200C or 180C Fan.

Press the rolls down gently using your hands, then brush some milk and scatter over some sesame seeds if you like.

Bake for just 10 to 12 minutes and then serve with your dinner.

These rolls can be made two days ahead and kept in an airtight container, or they can be frozen.
