A rare 50p coin has fetched more than £113 following a bidding battle on eBay, and you might just have one yourself.

Numerous coins re attractive to collectors, with some commanding enormous amounts of money.

This specific piece ranks among Britain’s rarest, and while it bears a face value of 50p, specialists estimate the coin’s worth at approximately £145, suggesting this eBay vendor may have missed out somewhat.

The Royal Mint is thought to have produced around 210,000 of these coins, which debuted in 2009 to mark the 250th anniversary of Kew Gardens.

The piece features the renowned Chinese Pagoda from the botanical gardens on one side and the late Queen’s portrait on the other.

This coin was listed on eBay with the heading “KEW GARDENS 50P COIN – 2009 – CIRCULATED – RARE COIN 100% ORIGINAL”. Beginning at £9.99, a 14-way bidding war saw the price soar, culminating in a final winning bid of £113.85.

The buyer must also cover £5.23 for postage.

Experts say that hundreds of thousands of Kew Gardens 50p coins remain in circulation, meaning one could easily be concealed amongst your spare change.

Should you discover one in your purse, savings jar, or even down the sofa, your first step should be to check its date

This isl because the Royal Mint issued another run of these coins in 2019 to celebrate 50 years of the 50p, and this edition generally isn’t worth as much.

That said, these coins been known to sell for up to £80 on eBay, so it could still be worth listing it.
