New research by Burns Pet Nutrition has revealed the dog breed that unleashes the most “disgusting” farts, making them the smelliest dogs in Britain. While the giant Rottweiler, weighing in at 7st, is likely to fart the most in a day, that doesn’t make them the worse offenders when it comes to bad odours.
According to the study, it’s the Pomeranian whose owners 100% agree that their gas “smells disgusting and horrendous”. But the small Pomeranian isn’t the only pooch labelled as having the most smelliest farts. Other contenders include the Border Terrier and King Charles Spaniel, who have also been given a bad rap.
Nutrition manager at Burns Pet Nutrition, Laura Crotch Harvey, commented on the findings.
She said flatulence is greatly influenced by the foods that go into a dog’s bowl.
“High-fat foods, human snacks like cheese or crisps, and poor-quality dog food packed with fillers can all contribute to a gassy gut,” she said.
If you have a dog that is guilty of releasing the most offensive smells, it might be worth changing their diet.
Harvey added: “At Burns, we focus on gentle, natural ingredients that are kind to digestion.”
Having been developed by veterinary surgeon John Burns, the pet food is said to “support pets’ overall wellbeing, particularly those with sensitive stomachs”.

The Rottweiler has been found guilty of farting more than three times in a day.
But the friendly giant hasn’t even made the list for having the most lethal farts.
Meanwhile, the Pomeranian might not fart often but, when they do, you’ll know about it.
But does any of it actually really matter? Farts, it seems, are just a funny part of nature.
