Police have arrested a man in connection with Monday’s stabbing of a woman in a park in north London. The suspect was detained on suspicion of attempted murder on Tuesday and remains in custody.
A woman in her 50s was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and is also in custody. Officers and the London Ambulance Service were called to Elthorne Park, Islington after reports of a knife attack.
A woman in her 20s was treated for stab wounds and was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
Officers have confirmed the suspect and victim were known to each other.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in Central North, said: “The arrest of the suspect marks a significant stage in our investigation.
“Though a man is in custody, we do understand that this incident has caused extreme concern in the community and we would like to reassure the public there will be extra officers in the area over the next few days as enquiries continue.”
The investigation is ongoing and police are urging anyone with any information or who may have been a witness to please contact them on 101 or online, quoting CAD7669/03NOV, Chf Supt Stewart said.
He emphasised: “The smallest bit of information could make a real difference.”
