Woman in agony from ‘kidney stones’ was actually giving birth to TRIPLETS but she had no idea she was pregnant

A WOMAN rushed to hospital in agony with “kidney stones” was staggered to learn she was in labour – with TRIPLETS.

Dannette Giltz, from South Dakota, US, had no idea she was 34 weeks’ pregnant as she “never had any morning sickness”.

She said: “I go to the doctor’s thinking I’ll have surgery for kidney stones and end up going into labour with a C-section that night. It’s crazy.”

Mrs Giltz was taken to hospital on August 10 as, “I started getting pains; I figured it was kidney stones because I’ve went through them before,” she told KOTA-TV.

Doctors soon realised that Mrs Giltz was actually in labour with, they initially thought, twins.

The third baby even took them by surprise.

She said that despite having two other children, she had no idea that she was pregnant.

Mrs Giltz added: “You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing.

“So, everyone’s like, I can’t believe it. We’re still in shock, trust me.”

She and her husband Austin named the babies, who remained in the hospital on Saturday, Blaze, Gypsy and Nikki.

Dannette’s friend, Isabella Moelter, posted these pics of the newborns on Facebook, to help raise urgent funds for the family as they ‘are in need of everything’

They were born within four minutes of each other and each weighed around four pounds.

Mrs Giltz said she had “started getting pains in my back and in my side [which] felt like kidney stones [as I’ve] had them once before”.

But she was “in so much pain all I could do was lay in bed and cry it hurt to move and even breathe, so I went to urgent care thinking I’m going to have to have surgery to break the stones up.

“Well [the doctor] comes back in after doing a urine sample and said [you’re] pregnant.

“They got the portable heart monitor and did an ultrasound and said there’s possibly twins.

“And in about two hours they confirmed twins, as there were two heart beats.

“They noticed the pains I was feeling were actually contractions, so the doctor checked [and] I was 4cm dilated.”

As a result, Mrs Giltz was rushed to another hospital, where they could see that one baby was in breech position, and in danger of being born feet-first.

By that stage, she was 6cm dilated, so “they moved me very quickly into surgery”.

While performing the caesarian, the obstetrician told her that “baby A is a boy, baby B is a girl…then the doctor yells ‘I need another blanket, there’s a third’.

“I ended up having triplets – one boy and two girls. I never felt movement, I never got morning sickness, nothing!”

A fundraiser organised by a pal to help the expanded family care for the unexpected arrivals had received more than £700 in donations by Saturday.

The family was congratulated on their ‘precious bundles of joy’
