Champagne and Percy Pigs flood through M&S store after shelves collapse causing chaos

Shoppers were left stunned when shelves of Champagne and sweets suddenly collapsed in a Yorkshire M&S store.
Pictures show the carnage after a rack of shelves in the Harrogate store suddenly fell down, sending expensive bottles of wine and Percy Pig chews crashing to the floor.
No one was hurt in the incident, but many who witnessed the aftermath commented that it was a terrible waste of bubbly.

Erica Johnson, from Harrogate, told MailOnline she was on her way down the escalators on Wednesday at 1.15pm when three shelves carrying hundreds of bottles collapsed in front of her.
‘[The store was] was fairly busy, it was lucky that no one was in the wine area,’ she said.
Photos captured by Ms Johnson at the bottom of the escalator, moments after the shelves collapsed, show hundreds of smashed glass bottles and the liquid on the floor.
The shelving holding up the bottles of bubbly appears to have fallen slightly forwards, causing the bottles to fall forward and smash.
Shopper Erica Johnson told MailOnline she was on her way down the escalators when the shelves carrying hundreds of bottles collapsed in front of her.
Ms Johnson (pictured with her pet dog) said: ‘I’ve never seen anything like it. It was a miracle no one was injured’
Among the wreckage was also a display of Percy Pigs sweets, Ms Johnson added.
Luckily the La Dame en Rosé display, sitting opposite the wall of champagne, managed to survive the crash unscathed.
Ms Johnson said: ‘I’ve never seen anything like it. It was a miracle no one was injured.’
She also praised the Harrogate M&S saying: ‘The M&S staff did really, really well cordoning off the area.’
An M&S spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘A couple of wine shelves broke in our Harrogate store yesterday but after making sure no one was hurt and a quick clean up, customers were able to continue shopping our fantastic offers on wine and bubbly.’
