IAN POULTER finished his first round of the 2018 US Open tied for the lead at one-under par.
The English star, 42, shares the lead after 18 holes with American ace Scott Piercy – with much of the field still yet to finish their opening round.

Conditions at Shinnecock Hills have proven difficult, with Rory McIlroy struggling to a frustrating ten-over par.
Big names including Jordan Spieth (+8), Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson (both +7) have also failed to make an impression after their first set of 18.
On his opening round, Poulter claimed: “The US Open is extremely stressful.
“We know past US Open’s when you are at the start of the week you know it will be a long hard week and today was one of those days.

“To piece together one under today was very pleasing. Today was good, but I have three tough days to come.
“You have to enjoy the challenge of a US Open and I haven’t in the past.
“This week is about patience and staying around until Sunday.”
While many were surprised with relatively unknown Piercy’s strong opening round, the Las Vegas star simply claimed: “I do this for a living.”
