President Trump and his 2020 election opponent Joe Biden will be turned into puppets for a comedy special set to air Oct. 1 on Fox following the candidates’ first debate.
The half-hour satirical sketch show “Let’s Be Real” will cover politics and pop culture using puppets — including of Trump and Biden — and is also set to feature celebrity cameos and remote pieces, according to Deadline.
It’s being spearheaded by Robert Smigel, the voice behind Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, who’s also known for his Saturday Night Live “TV Funhouse” cartoon shorts.
“Robert Smigel is a uniquely gifted creator, and, as the election approaches, we are so excited to be working with him on bringing a new take on the current discourse taking place across the political spectrum,” said Fox Entertainment execs Michael Thorn and Rob Wade in a statement.
Deadpanned Smigel: “I am a uniquely gifted creator, and, as the election approaches, they are so excited to be working with me on bringing a new take on the current discourse taking place across the political spectrum. Oh, yeah — for me to poop on.”
The special is based on the French pop culture sketch puppet show “Les Guignols.”
