Tiger Woods’ Us Pga Championship Challenge Falls Away After Thrilling Final-round Pursuit

TIGER WOODS had Major No 15 firmly in his crosshairs as he made a blistering charge up the US PGA leaderboard.

Fans dubbed Woods the Terminator as he arrived at Bellerive and he was a man on a mission after getting to within one of the lead when reaching five under for the round through 13 holes.

He did not hit a fairway on the front nine but still blazed a trail with his three under score that electrified the air in St Louis, Missouri, and had everyone dreaming of the comeback that once seemed impossible.

Woods, who has not won one of the game’s big ones since his 2008 US Open epic, missed a short birdie putt on the first before picking up shots at the second and third.

He then bogeyed the par-three sixth only to birdie the eighth – all without hitting a single fairway, the only player of 80 on the course not to do so.

Woods hit a wicked hook from the trampled down rough on nine and rolled in the putt before delivering a big fist pump.
