What will happen in This Time with Alan Partridge?
The new Alan Partridge series sees Alan get a guest spot hosting This Time, a spoof magazine program.
All the action of This Time with Alan Partridge takes place during the filming of episodes, showing us both the on-air action and behind the scenes drama.
According to star Steve Coogan, speaking at an event attended by Express.co.uk: “We kind of had a gift with Brexit because there might be a missive from the BBC that certain areas of the viewing audience have been disenfranchised.
“Alan represents them, so you can imagine them [the BBC] saying ‘we might as well give this guy another bite at the cherry.”
In Alan Partridge lore, Alan has not appeared on the BBC since the Christmas special of his chat show Knowing Me, Knowing Yule, when he punched the director-general of the BBC with a turkey.
However, Alan, as he appears in This Time, is a slightly different character than the one from the BBC in the ‘90s.
According to writer Neil Gibbons: “In the era of Knowing Me, Knowing You, he was a young man with older sensibilities.
“Now he’s middle-aged, we’ve had to go the other way – Alan’d love to be down with the kids!”
This Time with Alan Partridge airs Monday at 9.30pm on BBC One
