An Asian curry is one of the most popular takeaway dishes in the UK, whether it comes from an Indian restaurant, a Sri Lankan restaurant, or a Pakistani restaurant. You might think your local curry house, which you have been loyal to for years, does the very best takeaway curry. However, the best in the country has recently been named.
The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards recently took place to recognise the very best in Asian cuisine in Britain, from takeaways to sit-in restaurants to up-and-coming culinary talent in the industry. When it comes to the best takeaway curry house in the country, the 2025 prize went to one in a small city in the south of the country. Kaani Kaana in Chelmsford, Essex, won the title of National Takeaway of the Year.
Kaani Kaana is a Bangladeshi and Indian restaurant in the centre of Chelmsford, and has a generous menu of authentic dishes to order for takeaway. In terms of grills, customers can choose dishes like Tandoori King Prawns and Chilli Chicken.
There are also classic curry dishes, such as Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Balti, and Chicken Bhuna, as well as a variety of rice and naan sides to accompany them. There is also a full vegan menu, making it accessible for more people.
The takeaway has a near-perfect score of 4.8 out of 5 stars on Google, with people praising both the food and the customer service. One person wrote: “The food was bursting with authentic Bangladeshi and Indian flavours — rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced. You can really tell they use high-quality ingredients and traditional recipes.”
Another said: “A really delicious takeaway with a rich blend of aromatic spices and perfectly fluffy rice in the
Dhakai Kacchi Biryani. The front of house staff were very welcoming, and the waiting area is a cut above the majority of takeaways.”
A third shared: “I can easily see why this restaurant is rated so highly. Not only is the food top-notch, their presentation is as good as I have ever seen for a takeaway.”
A total of 75 awards were given out during the ceremony in London. The title of Newcomer of the Year went to The Bombay in Swanley. Meanwhile, the Champion of Champions award went to Nu Delhi Restaurant Lounge in Belfast.
