The Block's Jesse and Mel win the first mini-challenge – after their formal lounge missed the mark

‘How is this happening?!’ The Block’s Tess and Luke are left shocked after losing out to Jesse and Mel in nail-biting real estate challenge

The Block’s Jesse and Mel were dealt a brutal blow from the judges on Sunday night, after their extravagant formal living room missed the mark.

But on Monday, the St Kilda couple proved they’ve still got what it takes to win the competition, after they snagged the first mini-challenge of the season.

Scott Cam and Shelley Craft whisked the contestants away from the work site to reveal the challenge, which featured a $10,000 prize and choice of agent to represent them.

After being introduced to Domain’s managing editor Alice Stolz, the contestants were given their task- to guess the sale price of five homes.

‘Your challenge is to guess the price that the agent thinks the home is worth.’ Shelley said, before revealing whoever came closest to the correct answer would have their pick of agent.

The contestants were then sent off to inspect each property, with nothing but a Domain app installed on their phones as guidance.

Jesse, who works in real estate, was told he couldn’t attend the first home as it was being represented by one of his colleagues, but could resume later in the challenge.

Among the luxury real estate properties was a stately home in Albert Park, a Middle Park terrace, a St Kilda West renovation, and two Elwood properties.

Despite all of the contestants thinking Jesse and Mel had the upper hand, the duo later confessed they had been a little stumped by the Albert Park home’s value.

When it came time to revealing who guessed what, Scott and Shelley said it was a close call between Tess and Luke and Jesse and Mel, who couldn’t hide their nerves.

‘How is this happening?’ Tess quipped, before a nervous Jesse replied: ‘I won’t be able to show may face in real estate again!’

As Shelly revealed the final home’s worth, it was announced Jesse and Mel were the winners, followed by Tess and Luke, and then Deb and Andy came in third place.

The winning couple then announced they were going to be represented by The Agency at the final auction, in addition to snagging the $10,000 prize.

‘Sorry Matt and El’ise, we’re going with the agency’, the couple said in unison.
