Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani may be having the greatest season ever. His .940 OPS is .001 short of the NL lead, and he’s one-third of an inning short of qualifying for the ERA lead at 1.06.
Ohtani’s on pace for a 12.4 WAR, which would tie him with Carl Yastrzemski’s 1967 season for third best in the integration era (since 1947) behind only Dwight Gooden’s 13.3 in 1985 and Steve Carlton’s 12.5 in 1972, via MLB Network.
To simultaneously be the best hitter and best pitcher was previously seen as unfathomable.
“To do one or the other at this level is incredible. To do both is jaw-dropping,” Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes said.
