Shrubs won’t turn brown in your garden with one simple tip

Your shrubs might be suffering from the heat, but experts have shared how you can keep your garden in great shape even in warm weather. They have one simple watering tip that you need to know to nurse your shrubs back to health if they’re looking brown and dry.

After the UK experienced a heatwave, your garden might look dry and lifeless. While things may return to normal after some rain, you might be worried and want to take matters into your own hands. With this tip, you can ensure that your plants get the right amount of water without overwatering them or leaving them in need of hydration.

Flower Garden News says: “If your shrub turned brown due to extreme heat, start by watering the roots slowly. Many times, shrubs do bounce back.”

It adds: “First-aid tips include deep watering if the leaves turned brown during a heatwave, checking the soil around new plants for standing water or waterlogged conditions, and reducing watering where necessary.

“If the shrubs turned brown during hot summer or bitter winter temps, slowly water the roots in summer and protect them before calling in a certified arborist.”

Gardeners have been urged to make checks on their plants in warm weather.

You may suspect that the cause of your plants turning brown is something else. It could be insects or diseases which are the problem so make sure to inspect your shrub for other symptoms.

For example, you might notice leaf drop or webbing, or you may see pests actually crawling around the plant.

If that’s the case, have an arborist come out to give your shrubs a look, says Davey.

With more heat likely to hit your garden in the duration of the summer, getting things right outdoors is a crucial way to make sure you won’t be faced with any dead plants.

Checking you have watered your plants is important and can mean your shrubs will bounce back before it’s too late.
