Prince Harry is “not especially comfortable” with the LA celebrity lifestyle, a royal expert has claimed. Since quitting royal duty with Meghan Markle five years ago, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lived in Montecito, California, with their children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
While Meghan has been emerging herself into the “LA lifestyle” by setting up her own podcast, starting a lifestyle brand and even having her very own Netflix cooking show, Harry seems to have done the opposite. Although he has appeared on TV screens since 2020, with the main example being the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan, the prince, 40, seems to have stepped away from this media world over the last year.
Although the duke has not publicly addressed this change, a royal expert believes that he is not “comfortable” with the LA celebrity world, and instead is spending more time doing what he did as a royal.
This includes charity trips and events, such as his recent visit to Angola this week.
On the visit, Harry – who was solo – followed in his late mother Princess Diana’s footsteps by not only walking across a landmine, but also teaching children in the area about them.
Talking about this recent trip and Harry’s future direction, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror: “I think this is precisely the sort of work that Harry should do.
“It is not only a hugely worthwhile cause, but it also connects him with his mother, which is something he yearns for.”
She continued: “I think he (Harry) is coming to recognise that the LA celebrity world is one in which he is not especially comfortable. And he seems quite willing to let Meghan take the limelight over there.
“He speaks frequently about a life of service, and trips like this certainly serve a very good cause indeed.”
While Harry may not be used to the LA lifestyle, a source revealed today that the duke and Meghan, 43, have no plans to leave anytime soon.
The source told People that the couple is happy living in and raising their family in California, where they have a sprawling Montecito estate.
