Rare Apple sale sees iPhone prices drop to £199 ahead of Black Friday

We’re midway through November already which, by today’s online norms, means we are halfway through the Black Friday month. Great deals are no longer consigned to one day – instead retailers are discounting some excellent tech already, so you don’t necessarily need to wait if what you want is on sale today.

A set of great iPhone offers has caught my eye over at UK mobile network Giffgaff, which has dropped the prices of several iPhone models, selling handsets from a remarkably low £199 in “like new” condition.

The low prices are partly due to the fact these are refurbished handsets, which means they are pre-owned. But Giffgaff ensured buyers the phones are up to scratch, pricing and selling them in four different tiers: ‘good’, ‘very good’, ‘excellent’, and ‘like new’.

If you’re tempted, I recommend paying for a “like new” model. This is how Giffgaff describes these phones’ condition:

“Zero wear and tear. These phones look like new, with no visible scratches on the screen or body”.

A “like new” iPhone 12 costs £199, while a merely “good” condition one that will have scratches and marks costs £149. £50 extra is worth it to get a handset without any blemishes.

But the iPhone 12 is an old phone, released in 2020. Though it still gets iOS updates, it may only have a year or two of them left. So, you might want to delve deeper into Giffgaff’s sale and check out the iPhone 13 instead, which is available for £279 in “like new” condition.

The iPhone 14, released in 2022 is an even better bet at £349 “like new”.

All the phones come with a 24-month warranty and at least 80 percent battery health.

You can opt to buy your new phone in full upfront, or on a payment plan over six, 12 or 24 months.

If you aren’t a Giffgaff customer already, you’ll need to buy a Giffgaff plan too, with prices starting at £10. If you are already a customer, you can log in to Giffgaff’s website with your account details and you’ll be able to buy any handset without having to get a new plan.

The newest iPhone in the refurbished Black Friday sale is the iPhone 15, which is available in “like new” condition for £499. It’s a good idea to buy the newest iPhone possible so that you get software uodates for as long as possible, but make sure you can afford to pay what you’re agreeing to.

This sale is a good way to get hold of a new condition iPhone for less, especially now that Apple does not sell any of these models. Buying directly from a trusted retailer such as Giffgaff is a good bet for a secondhand phone.

Best of all, all purchases come with a 21-day “no quibble” return policy, so if you aren’t happy with the iPhone in any way, you can get a full refund.
