A royal expert has claimed that the possibility of King Charles making a visit to the US could be made difficult due to his strained relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

With suggestions that King Charles is set to return to his regular royal duties in the new year while he continues his cancer recovery, the Daily Mirror’s royal editor, Russell Myers believes that the US could be set for a visit from the King, as he told Pod Save The King.

But podcast host Ann Gripper doesn’t think that is on the cards, as she explained: “I am going to shoot down your theory of them going to America, because, who else is in America? Meghan and Harry.

“Who else is in America? Meghan and Harry, then it becomes an international, diplomatic….Are they going to come to New York, we’ve come half the way across the world and you’ve just come to the other side of the country, and should we just meet up, can we see the grandkids. If it’s not actually a thing, it will be a thing we’re all talking about.”

Adding that she couldn’t see the King making the ‘really difficult’ move, she continued: “Can’t the King say look, ‘I know you would like me to and it would be helpful but it would be really difficult, can’t he come here? We’ve got a nice castle, we can put him up, he’ll like it.”

With suggestions from some that King Charles could reunite with his son next year, the pair haven’t met face-to-face since last February when it was announced that the the King was suffering with cancer. Having flown in from LA there were reports that he didn’t take the oppurtunity to meet up with his older brother either.

Meanwhile, with rumours circulating about when and where the King could travel to next year, it was last month that he made an initial return to his royal duties abroad. Now he is set to make a full return to his schedule of international royal visits next year.

After his visit to Australia last month a royal official said: “I think it’s great testament to the King’s devotion to service and duty that he was prepared to come this far and he was incredibly happy and very, very determined to do so.”

With his trip being an overwhelming success, the official said that a ‘pretty normal’ run of international visits is on the cards next year: “We’re now working on a pretty normal looking full overseas tour programme for next year, which is a high for us to end on, to know that we can be thinking in those terms.”
