A British tourist has been hospitalised after reportedly being mugged at knifepoint by three individuals described as Moroccans in Lisbon. The male victim is said to have been attacked in the early hours of this morning while he was with his partner.
He was reportedly taken to the Portuguese capital’s Sao Jose Hospital with arm wounds. It was not immediately clear how serious his injuries are. The suspects fled the scene with a gold necklace they stole from the couple.
Portuguese media said the incident happened around 12.40am this morning, November 12, near Lisbon’s famous Miradouro da Graca viewpoint.
It offers panoramic views of the city’s historic centre, stretching on clear days to the River Tagus estuary. The suspects have been described as Moroccans by local press.
The PSP police force, which is investigating the incident, has not yet announced any arrests.
The exact location of the reported incident has been named as Arco do Graca Street. No details have yet emerged about the ages of the British holidaymakers.
Graca is regarded as one of Lisbon’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.
It lies just east of Alfama and is perched on one of Portugal’s highest urban hills.
