But officers arrived to find a bloodbath – with the victims suffering “apparent gunshot woulds”, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The shooting happened at a secluded home in the community of Blanchard, about 70miles north east of Houston.

Police have not revealed more information about the horrific attack – saying “the scene is extremely fluid.”

It is not clear if any arrests have been made or if any suspects are at large.

The shooting comes less than two weeks after police officers were left fighting for life after being injured in a drugs raid in Houston.

Four cops were gunned down during the raid on a home believed to be a heroin den – with two hit in the neck.

One of the pair was said to have been shot multiple times – while a fifth cop was also injured in the bust.

There is no suggestion that the Blanchard shooting is related to the drugs bust.

Detectives from the sheriff’s department are investigating along with the Texas Rangers.
