Roger Wakefield (played by Richard Rankin) was successfully rescued by Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) from the Mohawk camp.
Sadly, the price for Roger’s freedom was Young Ian (John Bell) joining the tribe in his place and cutting off his ties with Jamie and his family forever.
Jamie and Claire reluctantly agreed as their nephew stayed behind and took part in a gauntlet which saw him successfully become a member of the tribe.
The truth finally came out as Claire told Roger that Brianna (Sophie Skelton) had been raped by Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers), leaving him shocked.

Claire also said that the baby may not be his, leading Roger to admit he needed time to decide whether he wanted to raise the child.
In the end, he chose his love for Brianna over the uncertainty over the paternity of the baby and the couple reunited at Riverrun.
Brianna Fraser finally got a happy ending she craved as Roger returned to her after a period of uncertainty.
She gave birth to a baby boy with Roger asking to see his son upon his arrival at the mansion.

Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix) escaped the jail and ended up at Riverrun with Aunt Jocasta Cameron (Maria Doyle Kennedy).
There was a surprise romance between the pair that no one saw coming – and a diversion from the original novel.
Sadly, the romance was short-lived. Right at the end of the episode soldiers arrived at Riverrun with a letter demanding Jamie to lead a militia to fight the regulators and kill to the fugitive Murtagh.
Jamie was left shocked at the season came to a cliffhanger ending, which will be picked up in season five.
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN OUTLANDER SEASON 4?
Otter’s tooth stone
Claire’s pendant – belonging to a native known as Otter Tooth (Trevor Carroll) – caused anger among the Mohawks, who forced them to initially leave without Roger.
Jamie and Claire learnt the significance of the stone: it belonged to Otter Tooth who had travelled from the future to warn of the destruction of the Iroquois people.
However, they refused to listen to his warnings and killed him for what they perceived were mad ramblings.
Otter Tooth’s story was poignant and mirrored previous seasons which saw Jamie and Claire trying to change the past with knowledge from the future.
The story also brought the season full-circle as we finally learnt about the ghost Claire had seen when she got lost in the woods.
