Oasis fan told she ‘didn’t deserve tickets’ as people see phone antics | Music | Entertainment

As Oasis fans worldwide who missed out on tickets for their Live ’25 tour watch the awaited reunion gigs commence in Cardiff on Friday (July 4) with envy, one attendee was criticised for not recognising one of the biggest hits of the 90s.

Liam and Noel Gallagher delighted Oasis fans at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on both Friday and Saturday (July 5) with a setlist packed with chart-toppers including Wonderwall, Supersonic, and Don’t Look Back in Anger.

They were supported by Cast and Richard Ashcroft, who were responsible for getting the crowd warmed up before the brothers took to the stage for the first time in 16 years.

However, one fan in the audience was filmed using the app Shazam to identify a hugely popular 90s hit, leading to some irate comments on social media questioning why she had purchased a ticket.

A TikTok account dedicated to both Oasis and Richard Ashcroft posted a video of The Verve frontman performing the band’s biggest hit, Bitter Sweet Symphony, during the opening night of the tour on Friday.

The video then sweeps across the crowd, most of whom were singing along to the well-known track, before focusing on one woman who had the Shazam app open on her phone. Shazam can identify a song just by listening to it and is commonly used by people to find details about tracks playing in shops or even on adverts.

Social media was left in a state of confusion after a woman seemed clueless about the famous 1997 anthem ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ while at an Oasis concert.

Users on TikTok were dumbfounded that someone could attend an Oasis gig and not recognise a song some suggested should be the “national anthem” of the UK.

The user behind the TikTok account quipped: “Did they just Shazam the national anthem?”

They also took a jab with the caption, saying: “Imagine not knowing the greatest song of all time.”

Many commenters shared this disbelief, expressing their frustration that true fans who could sing along to every word missed out on tickets to the sold-out events.

One dismayed fan exclaimed: “There’s no way I lost tickets to someone Shazaming one of the most popular songs of the Britpop era.” Another questioned: “How are you going to an Oasis gig not knowing Bitter Sweet Symphony?”

The pop duo Jedward even jumped into the fray, stating on their official account: “If you don’t know Bitter Sweet Symphony, we can’t be friends.”

Yet, not everyone criticised the woman’s ignorance of the support act’s hit, as some argued that attending shows like these helped audiences discover new music.

One advocate commented: “Concerts were originally made for people to discover new music, not for die-hard fans who know every song; this is actually really valid of her.”

A second voice of reason urged others to relax, reminding them: “Going to a concert and not knowing all of the songs is normal, calm down.”
