Nottingham Forest Starlet Matthew Bondswell Rejects Manchester United And Liverpool To Join Rb Leipzig


ENGLAND youngster Matthew Bondswell has joined RB Leipzig – after rejecting Manchester United and Liverpool.

The Nottingham Forest left-back, 16, chose the Bundesliga club with the hope of breaking into their first team earlier than with a Premier League giant.

Bondswell also had an offer from Southampton to sign a professional contract after looking at his options to leave the City Ground.

He becomes the latest Three Lions youngster to move to a foreign club following Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund and Ademola Lookman’s loan at Leipzig last season.

United wanted Bondswell at Old Trafford after tracking him while playing for England Under-16s and Forest Under-18s.

The teenager also starred in athletics and won a silver medal at the English Schools Track and Field Championships in the triple jump last summer, while also competing over 200metres at schoolboy level.

Bondswell used Instagram last week with a length message revealing his sadness over leaving.

He said then: “Today is a difficult day as the time has come for me to say goodbye to the place that has been my home for 8 amazing years.

“I’ve had a fantastic time at Nottingham Forest, leaving behind a great football club with great people..

“Sadly, my time has come to move onto a new chapter, however the club, the players, the coaches, the staff, everyone in the Forest family will always have a special place in my heart for the way they have helped me and treated me.”

“A big thank you goes out to all the top coaches and players who have guided me and helped me become the player and person I am over this period of time and I wish them all the best of luck in their future careers.”
