APPLE may be working on a brand new version of its famously dinky iPhone SE, which could arrive later today.
Several industry watchers have waded in on the debate over whether Apple has given up on small phones, and seem to agree that a new mini iPhone SE 2 is in the works.

New iPhone SE 2: Is it really happening?
Apple launched the iPhone SE way back in March 2016, giving customers a smaller alternative to the bigger iPhone 6S.
With its 4-inch screen, the iPhone SE soared to popularity among Apple fans who struggled to get to grips with ballooning smartphone sizes.
But despite the phone’s well-received launch, Apple has shied away from launching a successor to the phone.

In a new report from industry experts at TrendForce however, Apple is outed as allegedly preparing a new iPhone SE 2.
The analysts write that Apple “will launch the second generation of iPhone SE” in 2018, in a bid to “meet the demand” of budget buyers looking for a smaller device.
The Sun has asked Apple for comment on this claim, and we’ll update this article with any response.

A separate rumour from China’s Economic Daily News goes one step further, and says Apple will “release a new iPhone SE 2” in the first half of 2018.
While there’s no way of verifying this particular report, it’s worth noting that Apple phones are often leaked by industry sources like the ones who appear to have supplied this secret info.

New iPhone SE 2 Release Date: When is it coming out?
So when is Apple likely to make this announcement? Well, if plans for an iPhone SE 2 coming in 2018 turn out to be true, there are really only two options.
The first would be at WWDC 2018, Apple’s annual developer conference – likely during the June 4 keynote.
The second option would be Apple’s big September event, which usually hosts a slew of major product launches – including a new flagship iPhone.
This year we’re expecting that event to fall on September 11 or 12.

New iPhone SE 2 Specs: Will it be any good?
We’re still waiting for solid rumours on iPhone SE 2 specs, but it’s easy to make educated guesses – Apple is a creature of habit, after all.
The most likely feature would be a small screen, probably around the 4-inch mark. That’s dinkier than the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 display, and way smaller than the iPhone X’s 5.8-inch OLED panel.
Apple would probably choose to give the phone a performance boost too, probably borrowing the A10 or A11 chips from the iPhone 7 or iPhone 8 respectively.

New iPhone SE 2 Price: How much is it going to cost you?
Apple sold the old iPhone SE for £359 at launch, which made it the cheapest iPhone model available by a long way.
