Netflix is removing a popular Oscar-winning movie that fans have described as “absolutely incredible”, “fantastic” and “harrowing”. The streaming service regularly adds and removes movies and series as it updates its catalogue. In May, a number of award-winning flicks will leave the platform including one with an impressive near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. BlacKkKlansman will leave Netflix on May 16, giving subscribers only a couple of weeks left to watch it.

It is among a number of titles that will leave the platform on that day, including Mary, Queen of Scots (2018), Penguins of Madagascar: The Movie (2014), Sisters (2015), and Zero Dark Thirty (2012). BlacKKlansman is a highly rated flick with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96% based on hundreds of critic reviews. Released in 2018, it follows a detective who infiltrates the Ku Klux Klan in an attempt to expose the group.

The flick stars John David Washington and Adam Driver who play the detectives who have teamed up to take down the extremist hate group.

Following its release, the film was praised by both viewers and critics and received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2019. It received a total of six nominations including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actor for Adam Driver.

Fans have praised the movie for its depiction of the extremist group and that particular period of American history. One reviewer wrote: “Absolutely incredible film. Very chilling. Spike Lee sending a clear message and telling a great story. Whilst still keeping some of his infamous camera work.”

Another said: “Wow! Just wow! Very fascinating film with stunning acting and that scene with the speech blew me away.”

A third wrote: “BlacKkKlansman masterfully blends biting satire with powerful social commentary, delivering a gripping and thought-provoking narrative that is both entertaining and deeply resonant.”

A fourth reviewer posted: “Great movie with a powerful message. The story of an african american cop infiltrating the KKK is just as important now as it was back when the events took place. The movie is both shot incredibly well and the pacing is fantastic.”

A number of other films will be leaving Netflix throughout May including 1917 (2019), The Death of Stalin (2017), Hidden Figures (2016), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), Ride Along (2014), The Hitman’s Apprentice (2012) and Crossroads (2002), among others.
