NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Junior in horror plane crash as flight downs in Tennessee


As reported by Newsweek, Mr Earnhadt and his wife Amy and one-year-daughter Isla were on a private plane that crashed at the Elizabethton Municipal Airport. Mr Earnhardt’s sister Kelley confirmed the family were on board the crashed plane. She tweeted: “Everyone is safe and has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation. We have no further information at this time. Thank you for your understanding.”

Two pilots were believed to be on board but no injuries have been reported.

Mr Earnhardt sent to a text message to ESPN sports journalist Marty Smith to confirm everyone was fine.

The two time Daytona 500 winner performs punditry work for NBC Sports and is believed to have been flying to cover the Bristol Motor Speedway.

He won the Most Popular Driver Award fifteen times consecutively.

Mr Earnhardt’s grandfather Ralph was the 1956 NASCAR Sportsman Championship winner.

His father, Dale Senior, won seven NASCAR Winston Cup championships, a joint record with Richard Petty.

Mr Earnhardt Senior died in 2001 due to injuries suffered on the final lap at the Daytona 500 following a collision.

His son won the very same race just three years later.

Mr Earnhardt Junior finished second on the race which took his father’s life, in way was his second season as a racer.

He retired in 2017.

Mr Earnhardt Junior got married to long-term girlfriend Amy Reimann on New Year’s Eve 2016.

Their daughter was born last April.
