Mysterious spiral of cloud is baffling experts – STUNNING pictures

From the other-worldly to the ominous, Earth’s skies are teeming with strange clouds. These masses of liquid water can transform into almost every conceivable shape. However the recent sighting of a strange coiling cloud has even left cloud experts scratching their heads.

It appears nobody can conclusively say how the cloud was created.

The the mist appeared to billow in from a Ministry of Defence (MOD) testing range near the ancient Stonehenge site.

Meteorologist and MoD officials have been left perplexed while attempting to figure out what the mist is.

The rare cloud clip was shot by David Hargrave, from Sidbury Hill on Salisbury Plain.

Mr Hargrave, 66, was walking his dogs when he noticed the rare vapour trail.

The cloud took up a vibrant red hue red by the setting sun.

Mr Hargrave said the cloud was about 30 miles west from him.

The cloud was believed to be suspended over Westbury at the north-western edge of Salisbury Plain.

Land nearby is an MoD testing range where heavy weapons are trialled and soldiers regularly train.

The cloud’s location has lead some conspiracy theorists to speculate it could the aftermath of a rocket launch.

The MoD’s Defence Infrastructure Organisation, which operates the plains is reportedly not aware of any military training which could have caused it.

Calls to the University of Bristol and Somerset Drone experts Atticus have been made, but no one is any wiser as to what exactly it was.

Mr Hargrave said he had never seen anything like it.

He said: “I haven’t got a clue what it is either — hopefully someone out there will have an answer. It is a mystery.”

Other strange cloud formations have become viral phenomena.

Last year, for example, remarkable pictures revealed “face-shaped” clouds that appeared in the sky above southern England.

And a bizarre funnel-like cloud filled the sky in Tennessee as a thunderstorm rolled to a halt.

The mysterious cloud formation stunned residents and some even compared it to a UFO.
