Mindhunter: Who is Paula Dietz?
Mindhunter is the epic crime thriller series about the FBI’s early use of criminal psychology and criminal profiling in the 1980s. The entire second series is available to stream and download on Netflix now. The BTK killer appeared throughout season one and two of Mindhunter and like fellow murderer, Ted Bundy, the BTK killer appeared to live a normal life alongside his dark secret.
Who is Paula Dietz?
In season two of Mindhunter, viewers once again see the BTK Killer acting suspiciously at the beginning of several episodes.
In the first episode of the new series, viewers are introduced to his wife Paula Dietz.
The scene shows Paula returning home from work to her husband dressed in her clothes, wearing a mask and in a compromising position.
Paula Dietz was the former wife of Dennis Rader, also known as the BTK Killer.
Dietz and Rader married in 1971 when she was 23-years-old and he was 26.
They had two children together, one daughter and one son.

During their 34 year marriage, Dietz knew nothing of her husband’s crimes.
Her husband led two lives, one as the BTK killer and another as a family man and Christian, serving as president of the Christ Lutheran Church.
He had killed at least 10 people in the Wichita area in Kansas between 1974 and 1991.
Three years into their marriage, Rader had already killed four people – Joseph and Julie Otero and two of their five children.
Their daughter Kerri has written a book about coming to terms with her father’s identity titled, A Serial Killer’s Daughter: My Story of Faith, Love, and Overcoming.
After Rader was arrested by police in February 2005, Dietz filed for emergency divorce which was granted by the court.
The Sedgwick County District Judge signed the divorce papers the same day Dietz filed and waived the 60-day waiting period required for most divorces.
According to Refinery 29, Rader signed the divorce papers without any contention.
Dietz has never spoken publicly about her ex-husband or what happened.

Who is the BTK Killer?
BTK is the acronym for ‘Blind, Tortue, Kill’, which Dennis Rader awarded himself.
His murder spree began in 1974 and ended in 1991, with the death of 62-year-old Dolores E. Davis.
He sent 19 letters to the police and press over 10 years, 10 of which were sent in the year he was caught.
Rader would sign each letter BTK and even had his own logo.
In the letters he taunted police and the press, describing the details of his crimes.
By 2004, the BTK case was considered to be a cold case but in 2004, Rader began sending letters to the press and police.
For 12 years, Rader insists he did not kill anyone but as he planned his 11th murder, he was arrested by police in February 2005.

The police were able to find identifying data in the Microsoft Word document that Rader had sent over to a local news station.
The data contained the words “Christ Lutheran Church” and the name Dennis and with other evidence, the police were able to trace the documents to Rader.
He was arrested on February 25, 2005, and plead guilty to 10 counts of first-degree murder in June.
Rader was sentenced to 10 consecutive life terms and is currently serving his sentence at the maximum-security El Dorado Correctional Facility in Wichita.
