Mesut Ozil yawns watching Arsenal as he misses Burnley win through illness after security scares at home

MESUT OZIL was spotted yawning as he watched Arsenal beat Burnley 2-1 at the Emirates.

The ex-German international has been embroiled in a gang war after he was held up at knife-point alongside teammate Sead Kolasinac who came off the bench.

Unai Emery confirmed on Thursday Ozil and Kolasinac were available for Arsenal’s squad to face Burnley for the first time since the harrowing incident but Ozil sat out through illness.

The pair have been under 24 hour guard after the attack in Golders Green last month.

Both players were left out of the Gunners’ opening game at Newcastle because of “further security threats“.

But despite ongoing concerns, Ozil, 30, returned to training Thursday while 26-year-old Kolasinac went back yesterday.

Speaking ahead of the Emirates clash, Emery said: “Mesut Ozil is a little sick, he didn’t train yesterday but he trained today with us.

“Am I pleased that they’re back? Of course. For us, for me, first they’re a person and second they’re a player.

“We can choose them to help us in matches – and the first match is Saturday.

“We are 100 per cent with them. The mentality is now on focusing on us, for training and matches.”

Asked whether the players were safe and how that may affect their mindsets, Emery said: “The club is working with them to help them. At the moment they are calm with us every day.

“They are helping them in training, in their preparation and being in the squad consistently.

“That will help with their minds.”

Ozil and Kolasinac were involved in the harrowing incident

There were concerns the pair would miss even more game time after reports suggested the Gunners were worried the situation was becoming an ongoing issue.

After the original attack by knife-wielding thugs, a rival gang of East Europeans intervened in a bid to ward off further attacks.

But the local yobs refused to be intimidated and threatened to “rob everything” the pair have — forcing Bosnian-born Kolasinac’s terrified wife to flee to Germany and vow never to return.

Former German international Ozil went into hiding after two men were arrested outside his £9million Camden home last Thursday under the Public Order Act.

Ferhat Ercan and Salaman Ekinci, both 27, have since been charged and are due to appear in court on September 6.

Police are treating the public order offence and car-jacking as separate incidents.

Ozil and Kolasinac are said to be deeply concerned that the attempted mugging has rolled into something bigger and the German star installed 24-hour security – including guard dogs – outside his house as a result.

Ozil hadn’t been seen until Friday morning having gone into hiding.

And the ex-Real Madrid midfielder had to be bundled into the back of his car when he broke cover for the first time.
