Melania Trump, 48, walked in to the Governors Ball with her husband Donald Trump, 72, beaming at the assembled diners. The First Lady wore a simple black and white outfit to the yearly event, opting for a sleeveless white cotton shirt and simple black trousers. A large waistband highlighted her slim frame. Mum-of-one Melania wore her hair down in loose curls over her shoulders, and stuck to her favourite makeup look of nude lips and a perfectly contoured face.
Melania wasn’t wearing any obvious jewellery with her outfit, adding to its simple feel.
The First Lady was honoured with a shout-out from her husband, the President, during his speech.
Donald Trump said of his wife: “I want to thank our First Lady for having done, this is such a beautiful job. So Melania, I just want to thank you very much!”
The Governors Ball is a formal social occasion for both Republicans and Democrats. Traditionally press have also been included, although last year only select numbers were invited.
For last year’s Ball, Melania wore a custom-made Dolce & Gabbana black gown.
The First Lady has had a busy few weeks of engagements, stepping out in chic black on Friday for a reception in honour of National African American History Month.
Simple in design, the dress featured a high neckline and came down past Melania’s knees.
While she is now back at the White House, Melania was pictured in Miami, Florida earlier last week.
She wore a red and white floral gown as she stepped out at Florida International University Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The garment featured a shirt style top, and a midi cut.
As a former model, fashion is in Melania’s DNA – and she paid tribute to Chanel Creative Director Karl Lagerfeld after his death at the age of 85 last week.
Writing in view of her 11.6 million Twitter followers, she paid tribute to the German creative director and artist, calling him a “creative genius”.
“Today the world lost a creative genius. We will miss you Karl! #RIPKarlLagerfeld,” she penned.
The 48-year-old went on to share a photo which does not appear to have been released into the public domain before.
The capture was a drawing of Melania Trump wearing an outfit Karl appears to have designed for her.
