Meghan Markle posed a sweet 13-word reply to interviewer’s comment about their “whirlwind” romance back in 2017.
Prince Harry announced his engagement to the American actress in November 2017, just over a year after their first date in London.
Shortly after Harry proposed in the grounds of their Kensington Palace home, the loved-up couple sat down for a tell-interview with the BBC.
After being asked about their “whirlwind” romance, Meghan replied: “I don’t think I’d call it a whirlwind in terms of our relationship.”
She added: “Obviously there have been layers attached to how public it has become after we had a good 5 or 6 months of just privacy which was amazing.”
Explaining further about the early days of their relationship, she added: “But no I think we really able to have so much time just to connect and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other even though we were obviously doing a long-distance relationship – we made it work.”
Meghan, who officially tied the knot with Harry in Windsor in May 2018, referred to their early dates as “authentic and organic”. The Duke of Sussex, 40, proposed to Meghan with a trilogy engagement ring featuring diamonds from his late mother Princess Diana’s collection after cooking a roast chicken dinner at their home Nottingham Cottage.
Speaking of the engagement, Harry said: “I wanted to do it earlier. Because I had to ask permission from my grandmother, I couldn’t do it outside of the UK. I did pop a bottle of champagne while she was roasting a chicken and that kind of slightly gave the game away.”
“She was like, ‘You never drink champagne, what’s the occasion?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know, I just had it like, lying around, whatever,'” Harry joked.
The couple, who stepped down from royal duties in 2020, have since welcomed two children – Prince Archie in 2019 and Princess Lilibet in 2021. The family now reside in Montecito, California.
