MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry are expected to welcome their first child any day now and many royal fans can’t wait to find out what the Duke and Duchess will call their baby.

While bookies still have Diana listed as favourite, one expert is confident that the parents-to-be will actually name the new royal either Alice, Arthur or Albert.

And while it might sound a little random, as head of life events at the Office for National Statistics, Nick Stripe knows a thing or two about baby naming.

Added to that, he also correctly guessed the name of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third child, Prince Louis, last year – so he does have a track record of being spot on.

“I suspect they will go for a reasonably traditional one,” Nick told the Express.

“The bookies seem to think a baby girl is on the way, and so my guess is Alice. Riding high across the country, Alice currently occupies 17th place in the girls’ chart.”

Explaining Alice was the name of Prince Philip’s mother – Princess Alice of Battenberg – as well as that of his grandmother, Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, it would certainly be a traditional choice.

And if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcome a baby boy, Nick is torn between Albert and Arthur.

“Currently in 59th place in the boys’ chart, Albert was not strictly on my list of names to watch out for. But Albie, in 57th place, was,” Nick explained.

“Sitting pretty in 19th place, Arthur is more popular than it’s been since the 1920s. It’s one of the middle names of Prince Charles, William and Louis. And Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, was Queen Victoria’s seventh child.

“… I really can’t decide, so don’t put more than £1 on it. No one’s ever found the Holy Grail by following my tips.”

Earlier this month, the Palace revealed Meghan and Harry would be keeping the birth of their first born private until they have had an opportunity to celebrate as a family.

In a statement they said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very grateful for the goodwill they have received from people throughout the United Kingdom and around the world as they prepare to welcome their baby.

“Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private.

“The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

Some royal fans think the 37-year-old could go into labour this weekend, as a result of the “Pink Moon”.

The start of a new full moon – like the one that appeared last night– is believed by some to induce birth.

According to anecdotal evidence, the lunar cycle can induce labour.

It has been suggested that the full moon’s gravitational pull can affect the amniotic fluid which surrounds the baby in the womb.

It looks like we’ll just have to wait and see…
