The host of an American sports channel said how the Duchess of Sussex once rejected him despite him believing she was “obtainable”.
Former ESPN host Ryen Russillo met Meghan Markle during a celebrity flag football game in February 2014. He recalled having his sights set on Meghan during an episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast” last week.
Russillo claimed: “It was all of the [Sports Illustrated] swimsuit models. So, nobody was really paying any attention to Markle.”
“I was like, ‘That’s my lane. She’s probably doubting herself a little bit right now,’” Russillo, 49, continued. “She’s never been more obtainable.”
Meghan, 43, attended the sporting event alongside models Chrissy Teigen, Hannah Davis and Nina Agdal. She was also accompanied by fellow actors Nina Dobrev and Michael B. Jordan.
Despite his recollections from the game, Russillo did not approach the Duchess of Sussex. Instead, the TV personality messaged Meghan on social media, asking her to appear on his sports programme, “The Ryan Russillo show”.
This was to promote her TV show “Suits”, which was entering season four and about to premiere. He explained how his approach was a “very soft sell,” saying “it was, ‘Hey, I know the new season … is coming out if you ever want to come on the show to promote it.’ It was really professional.”
Russillo admitted during the podcast that he had an ulterior motive to messaging Meghan who, he claimed, issued a short response back.
He claimed that Meghan’s reply “was ice cold,” adding: “It was, ‘Oh, I don’t know anything about sports, but thanks for the offer’.”
Prior to marrying Prince Harry in May 2018 in London, Meghan had a long career as an actress. She notably starred as Rachel Zane in seven seasons of the hit show “Suits” from 2011 up until her marriage in 2018.
In 2020, Harry and Meghan took the plunge and went back to California where Meghan grew up. They couple now reside in their multi million pound home in Montecito with their 5-year-old son Prince Archie and and 3-year-old daughter Princess Lilibet.
