Following Meghan Markle’s return to Instagram last week, she has been warned by a social media expert “not to over-do it” with posts so that her audience keeps engaged with content.
So far in 2025, Meghan has uploaded three Instagram reels including a New Year’s post, a video containing her upcoming trailer for her Netflix show – ‘With Love, Meghan’, and an emotional tribute about her beloved pet dog.
However, The Duchess of Sussex has been advised to not “over saturate” her feed so that it feels “ingenuine” to fans.
Social media manager from Ellis Digital, Caitlin Jardine, told Express.co.uk: “Whilst she needs to meet the demands that keep her audience engaged, she needs to ensure that she does so without ‘over-doing’ it, without over saturating her feed whereby it seems ingenuine and insincere.”
“Her followers would much prefer and appreciate posts that are thoughtful and intentional rather than purely just promotional or overly frequent.”
The social media expert also warns that Meghan could be viewed as “fame-hungry” if she were to post excessively on the platform.
She explained: “If she were to post excessively without providing any value or benefit to her audience, it could risk painting her in a negative light, potentially even ‘fame’ hungry, as people question the intentions behind her return to the app.”
Catlin also adds as long as Meghan keeps her content “varied, authentic and aligned with her broader narrative”, the uploads would be welcomed by fans.
Speaking about what fans may desire from the Duchess of Sussex, she explained: “As a public figure and former royal stature, they expect her to use Instagram not just for personal updates but as a platform to shout about important causes, highlight her recent projects and connect to viewers in a meaningful way.”
The wife of Prince Harry has finally taken steps to connect with her online fanbase after a years-long social media hiatus, but she notably turned off the comments section of her posts.
Meghan Markle currently has 1.5million followers on Instagram (at the time of writing). The Duchess of Sussex had closed her personal social media accounts ahead of her wedding to the Duke of Sussex in 2018.
But she had regularly posted updates on them beforehand and also ran her own lifestyle blog, called The Tig.
However, since stepping down as a working royal in 2020, she has indicated over the past few years she would return to social media.
In a 2022 interview with New York Magazine’s The Cut, she said: “Do you want to know a secret? I’m getting back… on Instagram.”
