Matthew Wright Breaks Down In Tears Saying Goodbye On The Final Ever Wright Stuff Show After 18 Years


MATTHEW Wright wept as he bid an emotional farewell to his daytime show The Wright Stuff after an incredible 18 years.

The presenter thanked viewers, colleagues and his former bosses as he made his last appearance on the series today, saying: “It has all been magnificent.”

The TV star was presented with Champagne and a giant green cake with Goodbye Matthew written across two tiers.

It featured a mock up of the telly favourite going fishing after ending his stint on the show.

Despite his efforts to stay strong throughout today’s episode, he broke down at the end as they screened a video of his best bits from the 18-year run.

A choked up Matthew paid tribute to two friends who had passed away during his time on the show, and wept as their pictures flashed on the screen.

The telly favourite will be missed by fans after spending nearly 20 years as host of the show

Matthew broke down as he spoke about his pals, saying: “Ben Ashwork and Kim Hodge –  lost to bowel cancer.”

He recalled how “life happened” on the show, and how he joined The Wright Stuff in the middle of a divorce.

When asked about his retirement plans, Matthew explained his reasons for leaving.

He confessed that he just wants to spend more time with his family as his own dad died young after working hard for years to pay off their mortgage.

Tributes came in from Neighbours star Mark Little, who called in to speak to the departing host

He said: “It’s very clear cos my dad died young – to put a roof over my head.

“So after I did [finished paying] the mortgage, I thought ok. My dad died at my age so I want to do some living.

“Hopefully a bit of work along the way or I’ll be starving.”

The show will continue with guest hosts until it returns with a new name and a new host.

Telly legend Anne Diamond also sent her best wishes to Matthew
