A man’s random act of kindness on a Ryanair flight made passengers so happy some were in tears.
When it comes to travelling by plane, it’s more common to hear tales of people squabbling about changing seats or moaning about other passengers’ behaviour but one young man wanted to create a positive atmosphere on his Ryanair flight. Sebbie Hall, from Staffordshire, had a wish to make the aircraft the “happiest plane in the sky.”
He bought every family group on the flight a scratchcard with the hopes of “making someone a billionaire”, according to a cabin crew member on board. Sebbie and the staff member walked along the aisle handing the cards to passengers while they were seated and the moment was captured in a video on TikTok.
One woman couldn’t hold her tears back while another passenger gave him a handshake. Sebbie has a rare chromosome anomaly resulting in physical and communication difficulties and learning disabilities but it hasn’t stopped him from spreading kindness.
The Ryanair cabin crew member who helped him gift the scratch cards announced to passengers that Sebbie has done a random act of kindness every day for five years, starting in lockdown to make people smile. He has raised more than £100,000 to support disabled and disadvantaged children across the UK and was crowned the UK kind hero last year.
The member of staff asked passengers to give Sebbie “an absolute round of applause” on behalf of Ryanair. Someone else on board who works for the airline added: “Sebbie wants to say ‘good luck strangers, no strings attached’ but if you win, could you please somehow let him know?
“He doesn’t want your money but he’d like to know. Good luck!” The TikTok clip shows lots of smiling passengers waving their scratch cards in the air, showing their appreciation of Sebbie’s kind gesture.
The post has garnered more than 800 comments with several users asking if anyone won. Sebbie responded to share that he doesn’t know if there were any winners “but they were happy.”
Others commented on the act of kindness and one user said: “The lady sobbing would be me if I was on this flight.”
Another added: “As Ryanair crew, this is incredible! What a smashing young man.” A third praised: “Oh Sebbie, what a wonderful thing to do. We need more Sebbies in the world.”
A user, very moved by the video, chimed in: “I’m definitely not laid in bed bawling my eyes out.” A different commenter hailed Sebbie as a “real life angel.”
In March 2022 the Sebbie Hall Kindness Foundation was set up and has helped to fund projects championing inclusion for disabled young people and provide communication, arts and sports opportunities and equipment to families and organisations that work with young people aged 16 and older. Kindness is Sebbie’s ‘superpower’ and another considerate gesture he recently did was hand out Fab ice lollies to strangers on a hot day, telling them that they are ‘fab’.
